Since 1985, Cashway Homes Redi-Built Home Center has helped families throughout South Dakota and the surrounding region find quality, affordable housing solutions. As a family-owned business based in Watertown, we take pride in providing homes that combine lasting craftsmanship, energy efficiency, and exceptional value.
Many people searching for modular homes, manufactured homes, or prefab homes are surprised to learn there are important differences between these types of housing. The term “modular home” is often used as a catch-all phrase, but technically a modular home is built in multiple sections at a factory and then assembled together on-site.
The homes we specialize in are different.
Back in the 1980s, Todd’s father recognized that many of the homes sold through Cashway arrived at the home site as a complete, finished structure rather than being delivered in multiple pieces. To help customers better understand the difference, he coined the term “Redi-Built Home.” The name reflected exactly what these homes offered—a home that was already built, finished, and ready for placement.
Because Redi-Built Homes are constructed as a single unit in a controlled factory environment, they avoid many of the challenges associated with multi-section construction. There are no center seams running through the home, fewer on-site assembly requirements, and less exposure to weather during the building process. This allows for consistent quality control, efficient construction timelines, and a smoother installation process.
Today, while many customers still search online for modular homes, manufactured homes, or prefab homes, we’ve continued to embrace the Redi-Built name because it accurately describes the homes that have made Cashway Homes a trusted housing provider for decades.

Redi-Built vs. Modular
The terms “modular home” and “Redi-Built Home” are often used interchangeably, but there is a key difference. Modular homes are typically constructed in multiple sections that are transported to the site and assembled together after delivery. Redi-Built Homes, on the other hand, arrive as a complete home. Because they are built as a single unit in a controlled factory environment, there is less on-site assembly required and no need to join separate sections together. This approach helps ensure consistent quality, efficient installation, and a streamlined path to homeownership. It’s also the reason Cashway Homes adopted the term “Redi-Built” decades ago—to better describe a home that arrives ready for placement.
Redi-Built vs. On Site
For most of our rural customers, a redi-built home is going to be the more affordable option and will also have a quicker build time. However, if you live close to Watertown and we determine that building on-site is the best option for you, we will help you get set up with an estimator for our main lumber yard at Cashway Lumber, Inc. to assist you with the building process.
